Semi-finished products
What are semi-finished products in industry?
Defining semi-finished products
In industry, the term ‘semi-finished product’ refers to pre-produced raw materials that are machined in various manufacturing processes. Plastics or metals are machined to create different shapes, usually by forming or cutting. Material and surface quality are key criteria in this type of manufacturing.
Plastic or wood semi-finished products
Plastic semi-finished products are usually intermediates for use in industrial and manual production processes. Supplied in the form of rods, tubes or panels, these intermediates are processed to create the end product. Alternatively, semi-finished products can be made from wood; in this case they are called sawn timber.
Metal semi-finished products
Semi-finished products are often made from aluminium, copper or brass. Sometimes, bronze and silver alloys are used to produce semi-finished products for industry and skilled trades. The most common forms are tubes, sheets, rods and wires, although other shapes are also an option. Metal semi-finished products are also known as blanks. Even though metal has some advantages, faigle only produces plastic semi-finished products in line with its strict quality standards.
